ALITA 1003 Food Grade General Purpose Orthophthalic Polyester Resin

CategoryHand Lay-up ResinCodeALITA 1003

Overview

ALITA 1003 is a medium viscosity, medium reactivity, general purpose, thixotropic, and pre-accelerated unsaturated polyester resin based on orthophthalic acid. Meticulously formulated and manufactured, it fully complies with the stringent requirements of China National Standard GB 13115-1991 (Hygienic Standard for Unsaturated Polyester Resin and Fiberglass Products Used for Food Containers and Packaging Materials). It features extremely low hazardous substance migration, making it highly safe and ideal for applications demanding rigorous food hygiene certifications.

Features

  • Food-Contact Hygienic Compliance: Engineered strictly to satisfy the GB 13115-1991 hygiene threshold, making it perfectly suited for food containers and packaging.
  • High Strength & Rigidity: Cured parts show excellent structural strength and rigidity, with an optimized overall mechanical performance balance.
  • Outstanding Impact & Toughness: Specially modified matrix provides superb impact resistance to prevent mechanical stress micro-cracking.
  • Excellent Handling & Non-Sag: Advanced thixotropic performance protects vertical or complex mold matrices from resin drainage and dripping during manual lamination.
  • Fast Wet-Out & Curing Cycles: Promotes rapid wet-out of glass fiber reinforcements, supporting higher glass-to-resin loading ratios and swift demolding turnaround times.

Usage Instructions

Specially optimized for hand lay-up, spray-up, filament winding, and universal contact molding under standard cold curing conditions. Key applications include:

  • Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) vessels, pipelines, storage tanks, and components with explicit food safety or drinking water hygiene demands.
  • Corrosion-resistant inner linings for food processing factories, commercial food containers, and pre-fab cabins.
  • Civil fiberglass water tanks, water filtration housings, cooling towers, and aquaculture water reservoirs.
  • General high-end FRP items like furniture, bath tubs, portable toilets, automotive components, and marine panels.

Curing Characteristics

  • Strict Mixing Rule: Never mix Catalyst (peroxide) and Accelerator directly as it will induce an explosive reaction! Always mix one component into the resin solution thoroughly before introducing the remaining catalyst parts.
  • Minimum Processing Temp: Laminating must not be performed below 15°C. Allow the resin matrix to stabilize to ambient workshop conditions (above 15°C) before combining catalysts. Do not employ amines during production.
  • Food Grade Post-Curing (Crucial for GB 13115-1991): Moldings intended for food contact or drinking water applications must be fully cured at 25°C for 24 hours, followed by an essential high-temperature post-cure at 100°C for 3 hours to entirely decompose residual volatile styrene monomers.
  • Steam Cleaning Protocol: After post-curing, the fabricated structures must undergo thorough wet steam cleaning for at least 2 hours before operational commissioning. If wet steam treatment is practically unfeasible, fill the molded vessel completely with hot water (60°C - 80°C) containing non-perfumed food-grade detergent and let stand for 4 hours. Drain and wash several times with fresh hot water until all traces of Styrene odor are entirely removed.
